Why Russian ladies are so popular with Western men
Though countlessly argued, the fact remains there, and it stands for itself: each year thousands of American men marry Russian women they met through online introductions service and then brought to the USA on a fianceé visa. Yes, you've heard it right: thousands of such American-Russian marriages occur yearly.
From the other hand, the official US divorce statistics confirms very eloquently: the divorce ratio among such international families, where the husband is by origin American, while the wife is Russian, is impressively lower than among the couples where both wife and husband are Americans - that's already the tendency that needs to be recognized, like it or not.
The USCIS (United States' Citizenship and Immigration Services - the US Homeland Security Department division that oversees lawful immigration to the United States) told literally the following: "Marriages arranged through (the mail order bride) services would appear to have a lower divorce rate than the nation as a whole, fully 80 percent of these marriages having lasted over the years for which reports are available."
Correspondence and Finceé Visa
According to the researchers of the international mail order bride business, there exist at least two different approaches to the matchmaking of the sort, both applicable to the hundereds of the agencies offering Russian online introductions services. The first kind of approach is to encourage foreign men to correspond, chat, talk by phone or otherwise develop the relationships before actually deciding whether to meet in person (meeting in person is a mandatory condition for eligibility of men to petition in the Russian lady's name for granting her a fianceé visa). The second practice blantly suggests that the men buy a romance tour to Russia or Ukraine. On such tour man are offered to attend the "socials" (kind of parties where they could meet in person with the Russian brides and then choose from them).
I wouldn't recommend the second type of services, because they do not imply any matchmaking at all. Instead such agencies would just bring together groups of foreign men and 2-3 times bigger groups of Russian girls and single women who signed up with the agency as "brides". It is our deapest belief that you can't develop any serious relationship during a couple of hours at party. I also question the sincerity of girls who agree to give their consent to go on a visit in capacity of a foreign man's fianceé after a brief meeting in person with him.
By the way, the US authorities require that in the second case the man's petition for his chosen lady's fianceé visa be accepted only if backed by the criminal background check against himself.
My own deapest belief is that correspondence and online communication are the only choice for a mfn counting on serious relationship with someone separated from him by thousands of miles.
So, I'd advise you invest some time in correspondence, online chatting and other forms of online communication. Of course, neither e-mail exchange, nor chat or phone talks can substitute meeting in person with your Russian bride, but they can prepare soil for both of you for that future meeting
